Yellow Nasturtium by Joanna
Image copyright Joanna Ferguson 2013
Photo taken in North Western Sydney
Nasturtiums, originally from Peru are trailing plants that flower for most of the year in Sydney. They come in shades of orange, yellow, or red and may be striped or spotted with brown or red. They grow easily from seeds, and take about 8 weeks from sowing to flowering. This flower is about 6cm across. The plants are also edible, with the flowers and leaves being used in salads. The leaves have a peppery taste.
